About Jim

Hi, I'm Jim. Welcome to my site. I’m an artistic director, director, actor, writer, and teacher.

For more than 30 years, I have served as Artistic Director of Orlando Shakes, helping grow the company from a seasonal Shakespeare festival into a year-round professional theatre with an annual budget of approximately $6 million. During that time, I have produced more than 250 plays and musicals and directed productions ranging from Hamlet, Macbeth, and Much Ado About Nothing to West Side Story, Spamalot, The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby, The Mystery of Irma Vep, and The 39 Steps.

My work as a director has taken me to theatres across the United States and internationally, including Actors Theatre of Louisville, Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival, Florida Repertory Theatre, Florida Studio Theatre, Actors’ Playhouse, Cape May Stage, Flat Rock Playhouse, Colorado Shakespeare Festival, and Prague Shakespeare Company.

As an actor, I’ve played roles including Cyrano, Hamlet, Henry V, Dracula, Oscar Wilde, Malvolio, Leontes, and Lady Bracknell. As a playwright and adapter, my work includes Dracula: The Journal of Jonathan Harker; Frankenstein: The Modern Prometheus; Robinson Crusoe; and A Christmas Carol. As an author, my books are available on Amazon.

I enjoy cooking, gardening, traveling, reading fantasy and science fiction, and games of almost any kind—from poker and Magic: The Gathering to Catan and Zelda. My children insist I’m a Slytherin, but actually I am a Gryffindor who solemnly swears he is up to no good.
